Day 4
Read Acts 13 & 14
The mission of Paul and Barnabas that is in these two chapters is usually referred to as Paul’s first missionary journey. It was not his first mission, however. Luke had already mentioned others, the work of Damascus, the silent years in the area of Tarsus, the work with Barnabas in Antioch. What was different about this new undertaking was its pushing into new frontiers, moving westward, and Paul continued to make new breakthroughs, particularly in his outreach to gentiles.
Reflection questions
What kind of opposition have you faced because of your faith?
Paul and Barnabas made a big difference in influencing the gentiles to believe in Christ. Who in your life has been influential in helping you understand your belief in God and your faith?
Discussion question
In seeing Paul and Barnabas courage, faith and endurance, how are you challenged to serve the Lord more completely?

Seeing the trials and tribulations that Paul and Barnabas went through it gives me strength to know that God will take care of me even during my tribulations. Paul was stoned for his faith and witness and God saw him through it!! Because we are Blessed to live in this country with the freedoms that we have, I should be more intentional in sharing my faith!
ReplyDeleteI believe the opposition I have faced with my faith is in not sharing my faith at every opportunity that has been available to me. I agree totally with Scott. I get so busy with life that I know I fail when it comes to being a good disciple and witnessing for the God that has blessed me so richly. And I also know He will take care of me in whatever I do whether it's in my strongest moments or my weakest moments.
ReplyDeleteIn 2001 I was privileged to visit Greece and Turkey, where many of the early churches were formed. Dr. Mansfield told us of the many miles Paul walked to spread the Gospel. He was not shy about sharing his faith. I just want to stop whining about my piddly little problems and share the many times I have been delivered from terrible situations by the power of God. We don't know how much time we have to share his love with a hurting world.
ReplyDeleteIf we believe that those who believe in Jesus will be going to Heaven and to spend eternity with him, how could we not want to share the good news. Easy to say, not easy to do is it?
ReplyDeleteNo sir, not easy to do at all. I think to myself, I will talk to them later, maybe tomorrow. This is an area, where I need Much Improvement. I really can't imagine being stoned because of my faith. I am so lucky to live in this age & in this country. I need to work on this area, and look for opportunities to share faith & invite others to CUMC.
