Few areas of New Testament research are more difficult or their results, than the matters of chronology. The NT writers were not interested in providing dates or in linking salvation history with world history. Luke shows more of such concerns than anyone else, but even his effort was limited. Consequently, the various chronologies offered by scholars often differ radically from one another however; none of them are set in stone. I have listed below a website that you will find interesting, they are:
http://www.apostlepaulthefilm.com/paul/timeline.htm
http://www.apostlepaulthefilm.com/paul/journeys.htm
Here you will be able to see the approximate timeline of Paul and also an outline and map of Paul’s journeys that we will be studying for the next 20 weeks. Spend some time looking them over. You might want to put them in your favorites or jot them down because as we study his letters, you may want to refer back to them.
Questions for reflection or discussion
Have you experienced a spiritual journey for witnessing to God? What kind of impact did it have on you? What kind of impact did it have on others?
If you haven’t been on a mission trip, how can you change that? Have you considered going on one of CUMC’s mission trips.

I have been on several mission trips and I always come back feeling more blessed than those that I serve. It energizes me to serve God more. In my experience these trips have opened people's eyes to God's love. The fact that a stranger would come to them and serve them has a big impact on them.
ReplyDeleteI have never been on a mission trip but have always admired those that have. I must admit, several years ago I would never have even considered going on one but this was during the years I spent as a Catholic. I didn't understand them and never realized the impact that they can have on those going and those being served. CUMC has helped me to learn the importance of missions and to see the results first hand of what can be accomplished through them. Also to hear and see the faces of those returning from a mission trip and what an impact it can have on so many people. This is something I would definitely like to do in the future!
ReplyDeleteI went on a mission trip many years ago with my sisters church in Edmond. It was a family mission trip which included kids. We had a vbs, medical, construction and sports team. It was pretty awsome. I was on the medical team and we went into a really poor part of Mexico. People lived in boxes, there was no running water and very little electricity. The one thing that I can remember is that the kids were all playing in the streets and they were extremely happy and playing together and also playing with our kids. It was eye opening for me, they were poor, but they didn't understand or really care. They were having a great time.
ReplyDeleteNope. I have never been on a mission trip. Honestly, several years ago, did not give them much thought. But after speaking to people that have attended some & seeing guest speakers, I definitely see the importance. I enjoy & get excited when hearing about the mission trips, I look forward to the stories & pictures. Yes, I would consider going on a mission trip. I think it would be exciting to help people & meet new people.
ReplyDeleteI went on one of the Mexico mission trips last year (first time). I felt God was nudging me to go, although I certainly wasn't "qualified"--neither for construction (couldn't do heavy lifting) nor medical. But God provided a place for me--entertaining children while their parents visited the clinic. I was the blessed one--I think of the children often and love looking at their pictures. I'm looking forward to the next time that God nudges me to get out of my comfort zone.

ReplyDeleteI hope that I am doing this posting right. I have read the reading and thinking about the questions. My first thoughts were that Paul was strong individual whom , had the grit to stand up for what he believed in. His faith in God ,and his strength stand his ground against so many of his contemporaries whom came against him in his menistery, has been a great strenth in my own life.
I have had so many conficts because of my faith . Thanks God for His love and constant support. It is a great support to me to read the bible . Ever time I study Paul's story I can see a new perspective. I will respond soon on this matter. I am rereading the readings and thinking it over. Jim you know I have learned to take time to concider these matters. With love in Christ.

About 8 years I participated in a Mission project here in OK. A group of us went to an Indian Mission church to do some work. We painted the parsonage, the outside of the chapel and the inside tof the small house they used as their fellowship hall. We worked hard and had fun laughing and teasing each other. At Lunch time a goup of the church ladies prepared a meal for us. This meal I am sure amounted to a feast to this poor congreation. The looks on their faces and the sincere thanks and gratitude was like nothing I have ever experienced. All the fun , work and joking paled in the light of what it meant to give of yourself in His name. Yes I would definately go on a Mission trip.
