Read Philippians 2
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians+2:5-11;&version=NIV
Paul’s joy in his fellowship with the Philippians will be even greater if they exhibit the unity to which every church is called. Achieving unity calls for an attitude of humility (2:1–4) that mimic’s that of Jesus (v. 5).
Now Paul inserts a powerful hymn or creed in celebration of the humility, and obedience of Jesus—a course which not only led Christ to the cross but ultimately exalted Him to the “highest place” (vv. 6–11). By following Jesus’ example the church will be able to work out solutions to its own problems (vv. 12–13), but must do so together—without murmuring or complaining (vv. 14–18). Paul then inserts a personal note, a special recommendation of Timothy (vv. 19–24) and Epaphroditus (vv. 25–30) who will carry his letter.
Discussion question
How does this passage challenge society’s definition of success?
Personal reflection
Do you live a humble life? What does that mean to you?
How do you balance meeting the needs of others with your needs?
Who are the people in your life who have helped shape your own self image by their praise or lack of praise?

I don't know about others but for myself I find I take on the nature of a servant much less than I should. I get caught up in so many others things instead of doing what Jesus Christ did in his role as man. But by making Himself nothing He was given the ultimate gift of being exalted to the highest place by God.
ReplyDeleteSociety usually views success in terms of wealth and possessions. Paul was able to see success more in terms of reaching goals for Christ. He repeatedly established churches, then followed up rigorously, encouraging them to remain faithful and correcting them when they didn't.
ReplyDeleteToday society views success as a prestigous career. Money & material items. Size of house & what college. Paul's success was with how he treated people, working with the church & fellowship. Paul viewed success as following his faith & fellowship with others.

I walked into The Dollar Tree for an item. Hey all I spied was displays of Hollowee ,Thank Givens and Christmas all over the place. I ask you could they just weight to finish one holiday before they bombard us with another
holiday sales attact. They always have last minutes buys for unspecting shoppers approache the cash out stands. This is so that they can captlize on saling you the buyer (they hope) your and my earthly desires.
I try to live a humble life as I feel I should do. In the past I was sometimes indulgent in some aspects. However I try to be like I know I should be. I strive to be like the Pro. 31 woman (the good one.) I try To live as Duet . 28 1-8 says we should do if we want God' Favor. I want God's Favor and Blessings in all area of my life .I strive to reach the mark set before me in God' Word.
I try to keep a sevvant's heart, I give to others when ever I can . Sometimes I get myself in a unhealthy space , because I usually give all I have and end burned out.
Sometime I suffer from the Martha Syndrom when I over give or over do. I refer To the Martha and Mary Story . Martha works in the kitchen and becomes upset beacauce Mary sets at Jesus' feet. We all know that story.
Love to all In Christ.
