Read Acts 18

Paul spent at least half of his second mission in Corinth and on his third mission he maintained a close relationship with the Corinthian Christians, writing at least four letters to them and visiting them twice during the period. The first letter that Paul wrote evidently was lost; he refers to it in 1 Corinthians 5:9 and Paul’s third letter was mentioned in 2 Corinthians 2:3.
Corinth a vital commercial center on a narrow isthmus of land, with ports on two seas. There too the Jews turn against Paul, although many of the more prominent Jews became Christians (18:1–11). When Paul is brought before Gallio, whom secular sources identify as a prominent Roman proconsul (Governor) – who was known for his wisdom and wit dismisses charges against Paul. Gallio’s decision that the Jewish/ Christian debate involves “your own law” is in effect a legal determination that Christianity is a legit religion—a sect of Judaism (vv. 12–17). Some time later Paul moves on (vv. 18–23). But two of Paul’s converts, Priscilla and Aquila, are able to instruct a gifted Jewish preacher named Apollos, who becomes a Christian and is soon a great help to the church at Corinth (vv. 24–28).

ReplyDeletePriscilla and Aquila are the two that I am drawn to . They showed help Apollos in his ministry. They had a desire to help futher the gospel.
God has been leading me to study Acts. I have read parts of Acts. I have had mixed feelings about even reading this book.
I have stared many times to attempt to study Acts. My brother use to beat us in the head with Acts, when he was fresh our of Bible School. He had become a different denomotion that the rest ou. He was deterimed that the rest of the family was straight on the road to the devil. We didn't
fit into his new relious pattern. We were all doomed. He said that we where unclean and worldly . He declaried us unfit for him to waist his time on us.
So I developed a adversion to his santimonious babbling. I now see that there is far more to lean from Acts. I am glad that I now have a different view.
I liked Apollos. He came to them not a convert but was an educated man. After having the Gospel explained to him he did accept Christ and was able to help others with what he knew. He sounds like an interesting person.
ReplyDeleteI think Aquila. For taking Paul into his household & worshipping with him. Also they shared in tentmaking, which I am sure helped bond their friendship. I think Aquila worked with Paul through all the ridicule. He stayed with him & helped him in his preaching.
